About House of Hackney

Luxury British interiors and lifestyle brand, House of Hackney, was founded in 2011 by husband-and-wife team, Frieda Gormley and Javvy M Royle. Since its inception, the house set out to shake up the interiors world, celebrating bold print and exquisite colour for a new generation. Collaborating with likeminded brands, artists and designers, House of Hackney has continued to grow exponentially, and their beautiful wallpapers, sumptuous fabrics and opulent lighting and accessories are shipped worldwide.

This growth brings with it a changing set of requirements for the system landscape that facilitates online sales. House of Hackney needed a Solutions Architect to consult, providing personal support on a day-to-day basis.

b.solutions have been working with House of Hackney since 2016 delivering both an over-arching systems landscape growth strategy and the intricate detail that enabled them to hit each milestone, and all at an achievable cost for a growing business. The ability to both visualise the front end design and understand back-end technical requirements has made b.solutions an indispensable member of the House of Hackney team.

Initial challenges

One of the first steps was linking ecommerce platform, Magento to their ERP, Brightpearl. This allowed them to combine both B2B and B2C sales in one place with a multisite, custom-built connector.

A custom-integration between marketing automation platform dotMailer and Magento then raised the game for House of Hackney’s email marketing. Now with the ability to trigger programme enrolment emails for specific product sales, cross-selling and up-selling to existing customers happened in the blink of an eye.

The UK’s leading global delivery and outsourced fulfilment partners, ILG, was the next step for House of Hackney’s retail growth. Integrating this third party logistics company with Brightpearl allowed House of Hackney the pleasure of sitting back and focusing on their business whilst inbound and outbound orders were automatically logged and processed.

Other limitations

Whilst Brightpearl was working well as their ERP, House of Hackney was missing a native production management functionality that would allow for automated reordering of components and despatch to manufacturers. So b.solutions extended the scope of what Brightpearl could offer House of Hackney by building a Manufacturing App into the ERP. By connecting this to a 3PL partner, the production management process was now seamlessly automated from beginning to end.

The road moving forward

And we’re not finished there. AI growth ecosystem, Synerise, is the latest exciting integration. Connecting this to Magento 2 will enable personalised customer recommendations to take sales to their next growth milestone.

It’s crucial that a retail business’ system landscape grows and evolves as the business does. As House of Hackney continue to build upon their House, creating unique and inspiring designs that will stand the test of time, b.solutions ensures they can rely on their technology to scale as they do.

“The automation of our drop-shipped wallpaper and paint products has been crucial in the next step in our product portfolio journey, allowing us to offer a wider range of products to our customers.”

Linzi Graham, Merchandise Operations Manager

House extensions

With non-toxic, responsibly made paints and a move to textile fulfilment specialists added into the portfolio, we rolled our sleeves up again and set to work.

Over 60 sublime shades of paint, inspired by nature, were set-up via dropshipping to maximise the range available. The supply of iconic textiles was approached in the same way, with samples and fabric rolls handled by Pike Textiles with the additional complexity of waste mitigation – the management of patterned fabric consumption to get the most out of every roll – to live up to House of Hackney’s sustainability goals.

By building supplier integrations with Brightpearl, dropship purchase orders, dispatch confirmation and invoices flowed effortlessly. New nirvanas of décor were being discovered in homes all over the UK and the world.
